An edition of Mosdei hadikduk (1739)

Mosdei hadikduk

a new method to obtain the knowledge of the Hebrew tongue speedily and without a master; for the use of the English scholar. To which is affix'd, a praxis of reading, together with an essay to recover the rhetorical power of its accents-instruments for interpreting of Scripture, used by the divinely inspired penmen under the Old Testament, being a key to a Critical analysis of all the Hebrew and Chaldalc [!] words in the Bible, a work intirely new, now in the press; of which a specimen is added, and is an analytical praxis for this key

Edition Notes

The first two words of the title are transliterated from the Hebrew.

"A specimen of the critical analysis from Genesis III.14,15": 14 p. at end.

"Proposals for printing by subscription, a critical analysis of all the Hebrew and Chaldaic words in the Old Testament, with a large Hebrew index": [2] p. at end.

This volume may have been prepared for the press by Samuel Johnson, who was involved in Edward Cave's printing business. A copy at the British Library includes a leaf advertising An account of the life of John Philip Barretier... (1744), one of Johnson's early works.

The second preliminary leaf is a list of subscribers.
