"A journal nearly identical with this was published in the Proceedings of the Massachusetts historical society, 2nd series, v. 2, April 1886, and in the Magazine of history with notes and queries, no. 234 (v. 34, no. 3, p. [37]-47, as the journal of Ebenezer Wild. Later evidence shows that neither Joseph Ware of Needham, Mass., nor Ebenezer Wild, was in Arnold's army, and that the original of these two journals was most probably written by Ebenezer Tolman. For discussion of the question of authorship, see Justin H. Smith's "Arnold's march for Cambridge to Quebec," 1903, p. 44-51"--NUC pre-1956.
