'Stand, Men of the West! Stand and wait! This is the hour of doom.'
Thus rang out the words of Gandalf the White in the final great battle against the raging hosts of Mordor.
The Return of The King, the third and last book in J.R.R. Tolkien's trilogy, The Lord of the Rings, follows the adventures of the Companions of the Ring•to their thrilling conclusion. The lifting of the siege of Gondor, the battle on the fields of the Pelennor, the marshalling of forces for the final great battle, the rescue of Frodo and his journey to Mount Doom, all play their part in the even- tual fate of the One Ring and the ending of the Third Age of Middle-earth.
This is the only authorized Canadian paperback edition of Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings, one of the great masterpieces of this century. The tril-ogy is an inspired mythology that comes to life with an enchanting cast of characters and unforgettably moving scenes.

Work Description
THE RETURN OF THE KING, which brings to a close the great epic of war and adventure begun in The Fellowship of the Ring and continued in The Two Towers, is the third and final part of J. R. R. Tolkien's masterpiece, "The Lord of the Rings."
In these three books, which form one continuous narrative, Tolkien created the saga of the Hobbits of Middle-earth and the great War of the Rings. Praised by such writers and poets as W. H. Auden, Richard Hughes and C. S. Lewis, "The Lord of the Rings" - that special world of beauty and terror and meaning - holds a secure place among the books that will live.
