"At 0755 hours on the peaceful early morning of Sunday, 7 December 1941, the first wave of a Japanese strike force, some 350 aircraft in all, from their carriers 275 miles away reached the island of Oahu in the Hawaiian Islands, split into elements and headed for their objectives: Admiral Kimmel's American Pacific fleet at anchor in Pearl Harbor, and airfields nearby."
