The Spell of the Enchanter
On television, the eminent lawyer Sir Sheridan Leroy always appeared as a champion of the underdog, willing to help any good cause. Young Jo hoped to enlist his help to save the Marcombe Youth Center from the onslaught of property developers; she also wanted to impress Dave, the Center's director, for whom she would do anything. She hadn't imagined it would involve stowing away in Sir Sheridan's car in order to win his attention—nor that the enigmatic lawyer would exact such a high price for his help. It didn't seem fair that one man should be so brilliant, famous and powerful and appear so charming and attractive when in reality..

When Birds Do Sing
You're either blind or being deliberately naive," Scott said. "I may as well be frank with you. I invited you to come here today for one reason — to get you away from Alex and let someone else have a chance." Lindsay was bewildered. From his first forced entry into her mother's house to his cryptic remarks about Alex, she had found Scott Nicolson a rude and thoroughly impossible man. But also devastatingly attractive. Convincing herself that she was postponing her return to Canada in order to help her widowed mother sort out her problems, Lindsay took a position as nurse in the quaint Scottish village and found she had problems of her own.

Bright Wilderness
The letter expressly stated that a man was needed to preserve Aunt Nan's South African farm after her husband's death. With only a city girl's meager knowledge of farming but with a fierce desire to help her aunt maintain the farm. Bronwen flew from London. She found Lewis Galbraith, author of the letter and Aunt Nan's arrogant neighbor, far too free with his advice urging her aunt to sell the farm — preferably to himself. Bronwen resented Lewis. "I think you are high-handed. domineering and quite impossible." she told him. "You seem to think you can make anybody do anything." Unfortunately, her heart didn't quite follow the dictates of her head!
