1. THE first five books of the Bible,-commonly called the Pentateuch (, Pentateuchus, sc. liber), or Book of Five Volumes,-are supposed by most English readers of the Bible to have been written by Moses, except the last chapter of Deuteronomy, which records the death of Moses, and which, of course, it is generally allowed, must have been added by another hand, perhaps that of Joshua.
