I started my studies in Tampere (University of Tampere) in 1986, and have lived in the city since then. I got master's degrees both in public administration and later in philosophy, and obtained a PhD in 1996. I have been employed by the University of Tampere (UTA) since 1987 in different positions, currently holding an honorary position as the Adjunct Professor (the title of Docent in Finnish HEI system) and a teaching position as a Senior Lecturer, both in the School of Management of UTA. I started my studies in the Municipal Degree, and have been involved in local government research whole my professional life. I have approached local government issues from a rather contextual and development-oriented point of view, though, which has led me to such topics as cities' responses to globalization, local government in information society (e-government), technology-oriented development policy (high-tech cities, technopolises etc.) and innovation in local government.
