Edition Notes
Holograph, signed with initials.
On pages 2-3 of the this manuscript, there is a letter by Mary Carpenter to Maria Weston Chapman. Carpenter writes that Frederick Douglass has "taken his farewell of an English audience." Although weary, he surpassed himself, "especially when he defended the Abolitionists from the charge of infidelity." Carpenter thanks Chapman for inserting her "voices" and her friend Lucy Sanford's lines in the Liberty Bell.
On page 1 and half of page 2 of this manuscript, there is an "extract from a letter from Miss Carpenter respecting Frederic [sic] Douglass."
