Jeremy, il protagonista, ha perso i genitori a otto anni in un incidente stradale: da allora è in cerca di sostituti che trova nelle figure di June e Barnard, i genitori della ragazza che ha sposato. Da questo momento il romanzo diventa la storia di June e Barnard. Il loro incontro, il loro amore e la fede di entrambi nell'ideale comunista. Poi la disgregazione del loro rapporto che nasce da inconciliabili modi di credere e vedere la vita. A Jeremy che vuole trovare la chiave di queste due esistenze resterà l'eterno dubitare su chi dei due ha un approccio vincente con la vita.

Work Description

In 1946, June and Bernard set off on their honeymoon. Fired by their ideals and passion for one another, they had planned an idyllic holiday, but in France they witness an event that alters the course of their lives entirely. Forty years on, their son-in-law is trying to uncover the cause of their estrangement and is led back to this moment on their honeymoon and an experience of such darkness it was to wrench the couple apart.
