A general overview of the beginnings of his collection of sculptures that includes the period of institutionalization of Argentine art, from the founding of the MNBA in 1895 to the 4th Salón de Artes Plásticas in 1914. The book-catalogue examines what were the motivations that encouraged Eduardo Schiaffino, first director of the institution (between 1895 and 1910), to form a collection of sculptures of mostly European artists to promote local sculpture practice. Works by Lucio Correa Morales, Mateo Alonso, Francisco Cafferata, Víctor de Pol, Arturo Dresco, Pedro Zonza Briano, Antonio Tantardini, Jules Lagae, Auguste Rodin and Émile Bourdelle amongst other 19th and early 20th century famous foreign and Argentine artists are part of the collection. The edition includes a detail history of the museum and the collection and includes a special section on the restoration activities carried out in the museum sculptures.
