Edition Notes

A presentation of the case of the East Jersey proprietors againstthe occupants of lands in the town of Elizabeth deriving their title from grants made by Governor Nicolls about eighty years earlier. The document was probably prepared by James Alexander. A reply was published in 1752, with title: "An answer to A bill in the chancery of New-Jersey." The case never came to a decision, being thus settled practically in favor of the defendants of Hatfield's History of Elizabeth, New Jersey., 1868.

The bill filed april 13, 1745) is signed: Ja. Alexander, Joe Murray, of council for complainants.
