William Lloyd Garrison heard from Theodore Tilton that Oliver Johnson was near Longwood, Pa., on a visit. Garrison thinks that someone other than himself should write the history of the anti-slavery cause. He mentions preparations for "the Decade of celebration at Philadelphia" [of the American Anti-Slavery Society]. Garrison's family thinks that the photograph of him, that was sent by Johnson, "has a somewhat hard, severe and staring look." Henry Ward Beecher has "done good service to freedom and loyalty" on his tour in England.
