[The book] is an intermediate-to-advanced Spanish textbook designed to develop writing proficiency and critical thinking through reading and discussion of representative literary texts from Spain and Spanish-speaking America. The program aims to return reading and writing to a more central place in the Spanish language curriculum while continuing to promote oral proficiency development. [The text] is suitable for second- or third-year college Spanish or for an Advanced Placement Spanish curriculum in the secondary school. The text focuses on teaching students strategies with which to read a literary selection, analyze it for meaning, and finally react to it in personal ways, providing ample opportunity for creative expression.
